So, yeah. I'm back! (For now)
I won't bore anyone with a detailed explanation of my long and unannounced absence. It's mostly stuff like
overwhelmed with moving/unpacking/getting settled . . .
complete and utter lack of anything to say . . .
and a ridiculously long and self-indulgent Blue Period where I moped around and pitied the New Girl with no friends and lots of homesickness. Pobrecita. blah blah blah
With a little encouragement from sources both internal and external, I have finally started getting over myself. Finally.
As it so happens, on Monday my longtime friend Laura (formerly of show choir red lips and Sonic Dr. Peppers but now of far more exciting things, not the least of which being peacoat) shared a beautiful idea - journaling thirty-three days of gratitude, enough to last from now until Thanksgiving. Because she is quite on top of things, she started hers right away. I'm forever not on top of things and just managed to get rolling yesterday (hence the thirty days instead of thirty-three, which sounds more poetic and meaningful somehow). I know this is exactly what I need to keep the blues at bay.
Laura is inviting anyone who wants to come alongside us to join right in. Doesn't matter, really, how many days or how you share. She's going to share just a few along the way and post her entire list on Thanksgiving. I'm attempting to take the daily approach. This singular focus on gratitude fits nicely with the 1000 Gifts emphasis and community hosted by Holy Experience, which is ever, ever inspiring.
So here we are. Day two of thirty and I am so grateful for living close enough to family that one of the Grandmas was able to come over for the day, lavishing D with the one-on-one attention she has been craving while AJ has been weathering a mean little fever virus and bringing the supple surplus of summer in the form of frozen peaches plucked from trees right here in the Sooner state. Yum.

Better late than never, I suppose . . .
I'm sure many of you have read and heard that October is Attachment Parenting month. The theme for this month is "Giving Our Children Presence," and Attachment Parenting International (API) will be presenting some wonderful and supportive resources for parents including teleseminars.
Additionally the API blog Attachment Parenting Speaks is hosting its first ever blogging carnival, and it is NOT TOO LATE to submit your entry! (Deadline is October 15th - details here.) Each day at the AP Month home page, there is a Today's Presence tip to inspire and motivate. I gotta tell ya - Sunday's is speaking volumes to me these days.
